All Things Fine Art

Each year, I coordinate a small exhibition of my more accomplished students work. However, this year, I decided that I wanted to expand this show and include those first timers to art that work so hard in my beginning classes. In doing so, it gave me an opportunity to teach the fundamentals of exhibiting and marketing one's own work, to all of my students. Of course, students new to drawing or painting, who had never exhibited their work before, were very reluctant at first and there was much moaning and groaning over activities such as writing Artist's Statements. Writing about ones self is not an easy thing to do, as they found out.

With a five week notice, students dug in and learned how to write about themselves, frame their artworks and present themselves and their work in a professional manner. They also learned how to fill out show forms correctly and host an Artist's Reception. The reception was so well attended that guests and artists were shoulder to shoulder. In fact, there was so much enthusiasm, I'd have to say it was more of a party than a reception. LeeAnn Buckingham and her wonderful staff at Framer's Edge in Okemos, Michigan  sponsored the show.  Everyone had a remarkably good time and a few paintings sold....an added bonus. The show will continue through the 24th of April, 2016.
